How to Find a Wedding Band To Match Your Engagement Ring

If you know us, you know we do not believe in rules for jewelry. Choose what you love and don't worry about the expectations, conventions, or hangups you may have heard! Having said that, we get ALOT of questions about finding a matching band for an engagement ring so we're here with all our favorite tips and tricks for creating the perfect stack!

    Start With Shape

Before we go into gold tones and details, let's start with the shape - should you choose a straight band, tiara, or chevron? That all depends on your ring's setting. Keep scrolling to find your match!

We call these rings "stackable" because the head (which holds the stone) is raised up, allowing straight bands to nestle in underneath the setting and sit flush alongside your engagement ring. Stack straight bands on top and bottom to your heart's content - diamond encrusted bands, engraved bands, celestial bands, the limit does not exist!

These rings sit flush against the finger, leaving no room for straight bands to fit underneath the setting. If you're looking for a perfect fit, these rings pair best with tiara or chevron bands which will frame your stone flawlessly! Of course we have nothing against a gap in your stack, and if you love that look, straight bands are your friend too!

For any of our in-stock rings (or one of our custom designs), we can create a one-of-a-kind, kindred band to compliment and coordinate with your engagement ring! Whether it's simple or seriously fantastical, we'll work with you to design the most perfect band in the land.

    Next Comes Style

    LOOK AT GOLD TONES

Every gold carat has a different look - as you go up from 14 kt to 18 kt, the gold looks brighter and more vibrant. For a perfect match, choose a band in the same gold carat as your engagement ring. If you love a contrast, try our exclusive Peach Gold, a blend of rose gold and yellow gold that compliments all tones.

    TRY OUT TEXTURES

To get that bespoke look with a non-custom band, find a band with a texture or detail from your engagement ring. Maybe it's milgrain, a shape of claw, a vintage flavor, an art deco energy, a crisp bezel, or details on the side or basket of the ring - whatever it is, that shared detail will tie your rings together.

For extra interest, we love the other end of the spectrum - try stacking a sleek, classic solitaire with an extravantly engraved or embellished band, or try pairing an ornate vintage ring with a modern moonstone band.

    MIX YOUR GEMSTONES

Here's where we love a coordinated contrast. Align one element of your engagement stone and oppose another - think color, shape, or cut. Maybe you pair your cushion cut teal sapphire ring with an emerald cut band that picks up the lightest tones in your engagement stone, or compliment your rose cut diamond center stone with a sleek baguette diamond band.

Again, there are absolutely no rules - pick what you love and we're always here to give inspiration!

    Tips From The GB Team

When working on your engagement ring, I like to recommend doing a simple band because it opens up the possibilities later for the wedding band. If the shank on the engagement ring is plain, you don't have to worry about conflicting styles with your band when the time comes. It gives you more opportunities to mix it up later on!
