Cut: pick the highest quality cut your budget allows.
Pay attention to symmetry and the bowtie effect.
Choose the lowest clarity grade that maintains an eye-clean look. Marquise diamonds mask blemishes well so you can opt for a lower clarity grade and spend your dollars on the more important "C", cut.
Length to width ratio: for the most aesthetic look, start with a length to width ratio of 1.75 - 2.15.
